Did I Say That Out Loud?
Thank goodness!
If you’ve read the book Start More Than You Can Finish, then you know the back story of Ladies Laugh Lounge. If you haven’t, here’s the TL/DR (Too Long/Don’t Read) version :
I said I’d start more things.
My daughter made me tell jokes in New York.
People on Facebook in Kansas City said ‘DO THAT HERE!‘
I started a comedy show, and the women of KC bought ALL the tickets.
Now I’m doing it again!
Cowtown artist Charlie Podrabarak made the above awesome logo…to replace the one I made with a copy machine, masking tape and a Sharpie the first time around.
And that’s not the only thing we’ve fancied up.
I’ll be wearing gold lamé lounge pants…
…and we’ll have professional stand-ups, award-winning humor writers, up-and-coming comics and a bevy of funny first-timers.
The Comedy Club of Kansas City will have an expanded menu, just for us.
Doors will open at 5:15, with music by the celebrated, fun, empowering singer/songwriter, Caley Rose.
Headliners, in order of appearance:
Jen Mann (left), New York Times Best Selling humor author of nine books including Midlife Bites and People I Want to Punch in the Throat, and creator of the immensely popular blog People I Want to Punch in the Throat.
Janell Banks (center), producer of the Comedy Power Hour at KUAW 98.5 FM and stand-up comic and radio personality. Janell, known as MissJusLaugh, ignites empowering playful truth bombs that are more than jokes, they’re side-splitting PSA’s!
Taylor Kay Phillips (right), comedian, songwriter, Emmy-winning late-night comedy writer, co-host of Citizenship LIVE, and author of A Guide to Midwestern Conversation. Taylor has written for The New Yorker, The Atlantic, McSweeney’s & more.
With standup performances by these fresh courageous voices:
Bry Weltz is a high schooler by day and a standup comedian by night. She’s been a DJ, an actor and a news reporter intern for the Platte County Citizen. Since age 17, she has performed comedy in Kansas City, Iowa City, NYC, and more.
Shuchi Singh has been delighting comedy clubs in Kansas City since 2019. With a sweet but sharp tongue, she blends eyebrow raising observations of growing up as a first generation Indian with hilarious tales of being single in America.
Diana Kander is a keynote speaker and New York Times Best Selling author. She's dreamed of doing standup since the age of 17 but has never dared to step on a stage until The Ladies Laugh Lounge created this opportunity.
